Dear colleagues, visitors, friends,

In the fall of 2018 Dansateliers will celebrate its 25th anniversary, which is a great occasion to celebrate and party! We always keep on searching for new forms to facilitate artist development or solutions to what have become the challenges of today’s dance practice. As an organisation we are aware of the rapidly changing world around us and seek to respond to that in a creative way. And we succeed successfully! We have a beautiful pallet of choreographers that we collaborate with and have built a variety of very productive partnerships through which we find visibility for what we do locally, nationally and internationally.

The motto of our festive season will be:

“Gaining new perspectives – Exercises for body and mind”

As a kick off, on October 9 and 10, we organize a work-atelier for professionals based around that theme, followed by an extensive evening program that is accesible to everyone. During the daytime we research how we, being makers, dancers, directors, programmers or dramaturges, remain fed and inspired for the coming 25 years. The central question is: how can we stay open minded and curious to get to new insights? In the evenings we will have a lovely program in Theater Rotterdam in which we share “golden oldies” like Flatland created by Mor Shani in 2011.

The rest of the season is also dedicated to our anniversary. We will bring back old One Night’s Dance successes, putting them next to the newly 2018 selected ones. The Rotterdam edition of Moving Futures in February 2019 will have a festive edge and we will close of the year with a booming closing party on June 7 and 8, opening the Danceweek of 2019 in Theater Rotterdam. Throughout the year, together with Merel Heering, we will create a a series of conversations about dance with the audience and the makers and we have some surprising, multidisciplinairy interventions planned on different locations in our city.

You can already look forward to works made by choreographers such as Tabea Martin, Mor Shani, Loïc Perela, Connor Schumacher, Liat Waysbort, Jan Martens and Roser Lopez Espinosa.

We hope to see you soon but … also later, in order to celebrate twenty-five years of important developments, that have moved dance forward.  Make sure to block the dates in your agenda!

On behalf of the whole team,

Kristin de Groot

Director
