Marta & Kim – Associate artists 2025 – 2028

Marta Alstadsæter and Kim-Jomi Alstadsæter form the Norwegian/Dutch duo Marta & Kim. They are known for their unique performances in which circus and dance meet. With their diverse backgrounds, they bring together different perspectives, allowing them to search for universal meanings in their work. Their performances focus on human connection, using simple physical metaphors to create accessible images that draw the audience into a poetic narrative or atmosphere.

Marta & Kim address timeless themes that at the same time reflect on the underlying currents of today’s world.

The productions of  Marta & Kim:

FLUX

How do you find your way when everything keeps changing? In FLUX (2025), three performers search for balance in an unpredictable world. They move between control and chaos, between leading and yielding. Who takes the first step? Who follows? Sometimes they find peace in structure, sometimes space to breathe in the unexpected — or even freedom in the unknown. But just as they think they’ve found their footing, everything shifts again.

Meander

Meander (2024) is an ode to the process, to our constantly changing view of how we experience each other and our surroundings. By breaking free from traditional lines of hierarchy and positions of power, the five performers create a space where every moment can bring a new discovery, a new question, or a new insight.

Danslokaal 11

In their recent work Another Moment Ago (2023), Marta & Kim examine the perception of time and how it shapes our interactions and experiences. By combining circus and dance, they create a dynamic performance that plays with the speed and intensity of movements, establishing a deeper connection with the audience.

Our Arms Grew Together

In Our Arms Grew Together (2021), they presented an intimate self-portrait of their own relationship, exploring the boundaries between performance art and choreography.

FASE

With FASE (2020), they actively involved the audience in the performance, sparking a dialogue about belonging to a society or ecosystem.

As much as it is Worth

In As much as it is worth (2018) two performers find themselves in an off-balance situation. By the use of strength, stamina and trust they search for momentum and take on different roles. A sensitive duet between two bodies that differ in size and mass, about the subtle and nuanced moment of being in balance.

ENGEL

In their award-winning performance ENGEL (2018), winner of the BNG Bank Dance Prize and selected for Aerowaves Twenty19, they explored, with a contemporary perspective, the birth of ideas and thoughts through “physical poetry.”
