Marta & Kim – Associate artists

Marta Alstadsæter and Kim-Jomi Fischer form the Norwegian-Dutch duo Marta & Kim. They are known for their unique performances where circus and dance intersect. With their diverse backgrounds, they bring together different perspectives, allowing them to explore universal meanings in their work. Their performances focus on human connection, using simple physical metaphors to create accessible images that immerse the audience in a poetic narrative or atmosphere.

At present, their focus is on deepening their interdisciplinary approach and facilitating collective artistic processes for new creations. Marta & Kim tackle timeless themes that simultaneously reflect on the underlying currents of our current times. In their award-winning performance ENGEL (2018), which won the BNG Bank Dance Prize and was selected for Aerowaves Twenty19, they explored the emergence of ideas and thoughts through a contemporary lens using “physical poems.” With FASE (2020), they actively engaged the audience, sparking a dialogue about being part of a community or ecosystem. In Our Arms Grew Together (2021), they presented an intimate self-portrait of their own relationship, exploring the boundaries between performance art and choreography. In their recent work Another Moment Ago, Marta & Kim investigate the perception of time and how it influences our interactions and experiences. By combining circus and dance, they create a dynamic performance that plays with the speed and intensity of movements, fostering a deeper connection with the audience.

Through these varied experiments, Marta & Kim aim to develop new performances that explore chaos and form, themes that have fascinated them for some time.

After many cross-overs, partner acrobats Knot on Hands, Felix Zech, and Marta & Kim will join forces in 2024 for the performance Meander.
