Igor Urzelai en Moreno Solinas (London /Sardinia) make work about people and what makes us such special animals – departing from an interest in human relationships and the complex dynamics between asserting ourselves as individuals and needing to belong.
Their work is rooted in an interest in the immediacy of action as a vehicle for meaning, ideas and desires. The exploration of the voice has also been central, as a choreographic element generated by the movement of the body and that can fill the space in a non-visible manner. Igor and Moreno think of the theatre as a place for assembly and use, explore and reinvent its conventions to explore the cathartic properties of live performance.
Igor and Moreno extensively toured their works in Europe and also in North and South America, Asia and Africa, receiving recognitions, including: Rudolf Laban Award winners in 2010 and nominees in 2011; a special mention at the Prix Jardin D’Europe 2010; finalists of Premio Equilibrio 2014; nominated for the National Dance Awards 2015 (Outstanding Male Performance) and Total Theatre Awards 2015; selected for Aerowaves 2011, 2013 and 2015, Anticorpi XL 2014, the Edinburgh Festival British Council Showcase 2015, NID Platform 2015 and British Dance Edition 2016.
They are currently associate artists of The Place (London), TIR Danza (Italy) and Motus Musica e Danza (Italy). They are co-directors of the Sardinian artistic residency space S’ALA – spazio per artist*.
