RIDCC presents RIDCC Brings Back, this time in collaboration with Dansateliers. Former participants who have shown significant development in recent years and with whom RIDCC feels a strong connection are given a place in the event. This year, Land Before Time—the choreographic duo Yared & Joanna (winners of both the Dansateliers and the Korzo Partner Award 2024)—returns with a site-specific performance at Schouwburgplein.
At 19:00, Land Before Time, choreographers Yared & Joanna, will present their performance at Schouwburgplein. They will showcase their duet Waterkind. Waterkind explores the interplay and connection between two bodies without direct physical contact. How can we experience the sensation of connection and mutual understanding of the next movement through improvisation? Proximity and space are both essential, with a continuous focus on vibration and responsiveness. Individual bursts and eruptions occur, while both performers maintain a close relationship. Each movement is deeply dependent on the one that came before. Water serves as the central inspiration in shaping the flow. Combined with freestyle and elements of popping, this results in distinctive material encapsulated within the piece. Waterkind is a meditation on receptivity, closeness, and spatial awareness.
Yared & Joanna
Yared Tilahun Cederlund is a performer, choreographer, and composer. Between 2006 and 2013, Yared was active in the battle scene, participating in Streetstar (Sweden) and Juste Debout (France). In recent years, he has performed as a dancer in various productions such as Idiom and Drone by Erik Linghede, Mental States of Sweden in Dance by Mattias Andersson with the Cullberg Ballet, Raised on Rhythm by Niki Tsappos, Festen by Viktor Fröjd, Kontakt by Lisa Janbell, and This That Unravels by Björn Säfsten. He is also the choreographer of the series PULS, which was presented at MDT and Dansens Hus in Stockholm in 2024.
Joanna Holewa Chrona is a Swedish dancer, choreographer, project leader, and DJ, based in both Sweden and South Africa. Her dance practice is influenced by a range of movement traditions, from the technically demanding and politically charged popping style from the United States to isiPantsula, Sabar, and Afro-Cuban dance from South Africa, Senegal, and Cuba. Over the past twelve years, Joanna has performed in numerous productions both nationally and internationally. Since 2020, she has shifted her focus toward producing her own stage works, festivals, exchanges, and workshops. Joanna’s passion and motivation come from the purity, honesty, and freedom found in improvisation, as well as her love for music, connecting with people, and viewing art as a healing and revolutionary force.
