What is Second Base?
Second Base is a monthly Tuesday evening get-together for the dance community at Dansateliers. This evening is meant to meet one another and to address all kinds of questions related to developing a (sustainable) artistic practice that helps you move forward. Various topics are discussed at Second Base, such as: how do I build my own artistic practice, what is fair pay, and how do I sell my performance?
All dancers, makers, producers, business managers, and marketers are welcome, from beginners to mid-career professionals.
What do we do concretely?
We gather in person at Dansateliers every month.
Every third Tuesday evening of the month, we focus on a different theme. We invite experts to speak about the topic or to give a workshop. Before and after, there is space to exchange ideas, catch up, and share questions. The main language during Second Base evenings is English, but there is always the option to ask your question in Dutch.
On Tuesday, June 16, the theme is: How do you sell your shows to theatres in The Netherlands?
A ticket for Second Base costs €7, including a bowl of soup and bread – because coming together also means sharing a meal. If, for any reason, you are not able to pay this amount, please email info@dansateliers.nl to request a free ticket.
Why is Second Base important?
At Dansateliers, we find this important because dance is always evolving. We are stronger together by listening to each other and learning from one another and we are happy to create space for that.
We simply believe it is important to come together and to be together as a dance community. We don’t see each other often enough, while we have so much to share.
