Indian mythology says that when Shiva dances (Tandava), he is destroying an recreating the universe. When in dance, he is in full extasy. When in meditation, he is in complete stillness. When destroying, he is in complete darkness. Chaos, extasy and stillness. In Tandava choreographer Dane Badal explores these three phases in which the Indian god Shiva has reshaped the universe.
This project is part of One Night’s Dance 2019. One Night’s Dance is the annual talent development trajectory of Dansateliers for early career choreographers. This year, Dane Badal, Suka Horn, Ian Yves Ancheta, Wennah Wilkers and the duo Danielle Huyghe & Alexandra Verschuuren will take on the challenge to make a choreography in a short amount of time.
