Rotterdam is launching a new model to give dance a prominent place in society: the Stadschoreograaf. Danshuis Rotterdam and the Municipality of Rotterdam are announcing the appointment of Sheree Lenting, who will be the first to take on this new position. The jury consists of Conny Janssen, Connor Schumacher, and Lloyd Marengo. They have unanimously selected Sheree Lenting as City Choreographer 2026. Sheree Lenting is appointed for a period of two years.
Stadschoreograaf
The Stadschoreograaf serves as an ambassador for dance in Rotterdam for two years. This person works with Rotterdam-based dancers and creates a short, new city choreography inspired by what is happening in the city.
The new choreography will be presented on April 29, 2026, International Dance Day, at a public location. After that, the choreography can be presented as a cultural interlude at official events in the city, such as openings or ceremonies, and can also be booked by companies.
According to the jury; “Sheree is a natural-born storyteller who aims to inspire and empower others through socially relevant themes in her work. She stands firmly in the heart of Rotterdam society.”
At Dansateliers, we are incredibly happy for Sheree and very much look forward to what she will create together with Rotterdam dancers.
