Dansateliers is very proud to announce that HUNTER by Courtney May Robertson has won the VSCD Mime/Performance Prize 2024. Dansateliers is co-producer of HUNTER.
From the jury report:
‘Courtney May Robertson previously proved herself as a gifted performer and now, in HUNTER, also shows herself to be a very outspoken and challenging creator. Virtuoso, she draws on various idioms such as mime, krumping, dance and puppetry. This exploration of beauty in the perverse is an impressive achievement.’
The VSCD Mime/Performance Prize is awarded to the person or group that has made the most significant contribution to mime and performance in terms of performance, direction and/or choreography in the past season. From the jury report of HUNTER’s nomination:
… ‘In a dark ritual, a duo – one of flesh and blood, the other of foam and silicone – perform precise movements and meticulous actions. To the hypnotic sound design of Acidic Male, Robertson allows the audience to navigate between disgust and fascination. Virtuoso, she draws on various idioms such as mime, krumping, dance and puppetry. In the final scene, Manuel Boutreur’s wonderful lighting and set design together with Robertson’s abandon bring the audience to an overwhelming catharsis.’
