Born in Suriname and raised in the Netherlands, Zeddrich Starke is a 27-year-old dancer whose journey has been shaped by both diverse cultural influences and a deep personal connection to movement.
Starting at age 18, Zeddrich found dance to be more than an art form—it became a means of self-expression and a therapeutic outlet. While pursuing studies in applied mathematics, he was drawn to dancing as a way to connect with himself and balance the demands of academia.
Over the years, Zeddrich has developed a versatile skill set in popping, house, and break, showing respect and gratitude for the mentors who dedicated themselves to his growth in each style. Watching a solo performance that resonated profoundly with his own journey, he felt a powerful urge to participate in One Night’s Dance, a platform he saw as a chance to take his first steps toward becoming a maker.
Driven by a fascination with the duality of dance—its ability to be both subtle and deeply expressive—Zeddrich approaches dance as a way to convey feelings that words cannot capture. He sees dance not only as physical movement but as a reflection of life itself, inspired by the poetry of what he calls the “Dance of Life.” Observing people’s interactions—whether a parent with a child, a doctor with a patient, or colleagues in conversation—he finds inspiration in how each person moves through life and in their relationships.
Zeddrich draws from his encounters with others, seeing each connection as a source of insight and depth. Through One Night’s Dance, he aims to discover what dance means to him at a fundamental level and explore how he can share that meaning with audiences as an emerging maker.
From December 5–8 and 12–15, Zeddrich will present his new work alongside other emerging makers to the public during One Night’s Dance.
