Thea Atladóttir is an Icelandic dancer and choreographer based in Rotterdam. Since graduating from Iwanson International School of Contemporary Dance in 2019, she has been involved in a variety of projects.
As a dancer she has performed in two improvisation works: “Our Daily Post” by Katja Wachter in Munich, and “A Study of Choices” by Linda Wardal, shown at Reykjavík Fringe Festival in June 2022. In 2021 she interned with The Iceland Dance Company, where she was later hired to assist the production of “Crevasses” by Inga Maren Rúnarsdóttir. In the years 2022-2023, she participated in BPART‘s two-year international production, using dance to integrate minority groups into society.
As a choreographer, she created “In light of recent events” and “Light (not heavy)”, both of which were showcased at the #7 Fresh Winds Iceland Biennale in 2023. Currently, Thea performs in Teddy Shouldn‘t Smoke‘s production, “Interaction/Inner Action”, alongside being a choreographer in residency at Dansateliers. Thea holds a BA in Creative Industries from Bifröst University (2024) and has worked in production for performing arts festivals, including Stukafest Rotterdam, Reykjavík Fringe Festival, Reykjavík Dance Festival, and O. Festival.
Thea‘s work centers on exploring and framing the awkwardness of the human experience. She challenges conventional expectations in dance by embracing stillness, ugliness, silence, and human-ness. She maintains a focus on the joy of creating, though touching on deeply political themes, particularly rooted in feminism.
