Karlijn Hu Chuan Roest

Born in Taipei, Taiwan in 1998, Karlijn Hu Chuan Roest is a Dutch professional dancer, performer, and maker based in Rotterdam, Netherlands. She graduated from the Modern Theatre Dance program at the University of the Arts in Amsterdam in 2020 and has since built a multifaceted career, performing on stage, in film, and developing her own works as a creator.

Karlijn’s performance credits include roles in MAAN by Javier Murugarren, Topsy Turvy by Keren Levi, Lehmer’s Dance by Roos van Berkel, Funny, Soft, Happy & the Opposite by Connor Schumacher, Memory Loss by WArd/waRD-Ann van den Broek, and The Protagonist by Dunja Jocic. 

Additionally, she has collaborated with numerous artists and companies, such as Jennifer Tee, Floor van Leeuwen, Tools for Action, Meyer-Chaffaud Dance Company, Ingrid Berger Myhre, Liat Waysbort, Antonin Comestaz, and Cristina Planas Leitão.

Expanding her creative work, Karlijn co-created Op-onder-over, a children’s performance, with Rowy Tebeest. Outside of dance, Karlijn has been modeling since 2019 for brands including GELAMOUR, Zalando Beauty x Estée Lauder, My Jewellery, Adidas, Slazenger, McDonald’s, and ADE x Desperados. She has also appeared in collaborations with Afrojack and Baby_Reni. Represented by The Movers for movement and dance on film, Karlijn continues to explore the intersection of dance, film, and performance in her expanding career.

From December 5–8 and 12–15, KArlijn will present her new work alongside other emerging makers to the public during One Night’s Dance.
