Every Monday evening you can engage with the emerging choreographers connected to Dansateliers. By the use of physical exercises and tasks they will take you along an exploration in improvisation, performance and body-awareness. Professional dancer, amateur or never seen a dancefloor before? No problem, the lesson is open for everyone.
This week’s Movement Class guest teacher is Bakani Pick-up.
He is currently in residency at Dance studios for CROWD, a partnership of dance organisations, which together aim to support dance makers in further developing a dance practice within community arts. Bakani is a choreographer, movement artist and practitioner of improvisation. In addition to creating his own work, he has performed work by Theo Clinkard, Anthea Hamilton & Fevered Sleep nationally and internationally with the BAKANI PICK-UP COMPANY. With practice as research at the core of their work, they explore decolonisation through dance practice, haptic visuality and choreographic research. Bakani is based in Leeds, England.
