Open Studio on May 20 at Dansateliers!
Mona De Weerdt (Zürich, CH) and Valerie Wehrens (Cologne, GER) are our dramaturgs in residence for the year 2026. Within this residency, they are working on their project “doing dramaturgy” (working title).
What is “doing dramaturgy”
“doing dramaturgy” is a platform for dance dramaturgy that Mona initiated in 2024. In 2026, Mona and Valerie are further developing the material from this archive to bring together dramaturgical knowledge, questions, and tools. This project is dedicated to making dance dramaturgy visible in the dance field, and to the methods within this field that are being developed and growing into a professional landscape.
For this research, Mona interviewed 12 dance dramaturgs and organized a working session focused on exchanging tools and methods from dramaturgical practice.
During this open studio, Mona and Valerie will take you through their working process and share their conceptual ideas as they have been developed for their project. They will share interview material from their conversation partners, with a focus on working tools and dramaturgical concepts. Mona and Valerie will also present a design proposal for the platform they are creating.
Mona and Valerie see this sharing as a moment to receive feedback from the community and to further develop their project. The open studio is for dance makers, dancers, choreographers, dramaturgs, and others who are part of the world of dance/movement and dramaturgy.
