Reclaiming Us
Sheree Lenting
Dear all,
I’d love to invite you to the very first sharing of my artistic research project, Reclaiming Us.
Over the past few months, I’ve been on a journey — physically, mentally, and spiritually. I took a course, travelled to Jamaica, worked with dancers, coaches, and experts, and dove into research that feels relevant, urgent, and deeply healing. On Friday, May 16, I’ll open the doors to give you a glimpse of where we are in the process.
Reclaiming Us explores Black Love, intimacy, intergenerational trauma, and the impact of colonial history on relationships within the Black community. How do our history and culture shape the way we love (and don’t love) each other, how we relate to one another, how we make space for each other in intimate relationships, and the partners we choose? It’s raw, it’s personal, and it’s time to talk about it.
Coming from a deep curiosity about both the mind and the body, I’m combining embodied research with scientific insights — to find new ways of understanding how we connect, let go, and love.
We’ll begin the evening by sharing a meal, followed by a work-in-progress presentation and a reflective conversation with my incredible coaches: psychiatrist Dr. Glenn Helberg and psychologist Eneida del Gado Silva. Together, we’ll reflect on the themes that have surfaced throughout this research.
