Where and how do we find inspiration, do our job and keep on dancing and moving forward during the coronacrisis? Various dance artists and employees will give their take on that in the coming weeks. This week: Joseph Simon, who is working at home on his sticky feet-practice!
Joseph created his own home studio, together with housemate and danser Viviana Fabiano! Below they show a short sticky feet-routine on the music of Popcaan – Silence.
Joseph reads a lot for his research, next to his movement research. Below you’ll find a selection of his books, accompanied with an explanation about why these are important to him.
“Müdigkeitsgesellschaft” (The Burnout Society) by Byung-Chul Han. ‘Thanks to Christina Liakopoyloy, a highly rebellious choreographer, for passing on this book to me. It is an essay from 2010 with an intriguing opening statement in which the author mentions the potential danger for a pandemic in today’s world.’
“Emergent Strategy” by Adrienne Maree Brown. ‘Thanks to my precious friend and long distance love Madelyn Bullard. ‘This book presents strategies for social and environmental change that are based on the highly interdependent and collaborative ways of nature to organise itself.’
“Find your why” Simon Sinek. ‘Thanks to Jonas Frey, who has been providing me with interesting readings for a while now, to introduce me to this book. This is a method intended for businesses and individuals to find out what drives them to do the things they do.’
“Figuring” by Maria Popova. ‘Thanks to Erik Kaiel, the rockstar of children choreography, for introducing me to the website https://www.brainpickings.org which is full of essays and reflections on the big topics of life, based on the biographies and work of a great amount of scientists, artists and philosophers.’
