Amparo González Sola – Associate artist 2025 – 2028

Amparo González Sola (she/her, ARG) is an Argentinian choreographer based in the Netherlands. Through her artistic practice she invites people to slow down and engage in reciprocal attention. The themes in her work arise from embodied questioning and intuitions relating to political and social urgencies that can be felt within and between bodies.

Creating works for both theatre and alternative spaces, as well as participatory projects that bring together people from various backgrounds and generations, Amparo invites people to be present with urgent questions while embracing opacity and uncertainty as spaces of empowerment.

Amparo is an Associate Artist with Dansateliers, Rotterdam, The Netherlands (2025–2028). She completed the DAS Choreography Master’s programme (AHK, 2022) and the Programme for Choreographers Édition Spéciale (CND Paris, 2019). Her works While Taking Shape (2025), The Conspiracy of Forms (2023) and If Every Rock Is a Hole (2022) all premiered at SPRING Performing Arts Festival in Utrecht, The Netherlands. In 2025 she created Gestures as Portals, a durational and site-responsive performance.

She further developed the participatory project Exploring Reciprocity with Residenties in Utrecht (since 2019) and is a member of the Cultural Common Lab (Utrecht). She regularly collaborates with other artists, researchers and activists.

The productions of Amparo:

Gestures as Portals

Gestures as Portals (2025) is a durational performance for gallery set up or other alternative spaces. It works as an ongoing performance in which visitors are invited to come into the space and stay as long as they wish. In this project I resume the questions and choreographic methods of While Taking Shape, and I explore them into a durational, site-responsive format with 2 performers.

While Taking Shape

While Taking Shape (2025) is an intimate dance performance which explores gestures as portals to memories and as connectors between bodies and experiences. In the performance audience and performers share the space, visible to each other. The choreography is built from the gestures of the audience: they are echoed, held, stretched in the space, reversed, reshaped.

The Conspiracy of forms

The Conspiracy of forms (2023) is a dance performance, a ritual of transformation and a political manifesto. Three women and a block of concrete. They hold the block, they hammer it, knead it, rub it, they transform the solid matter into something else. The audience is invited to witness from close and to be slowly drawn into the ritual, immersed in the sound, touched by the dust.

If every rock is a hole

If every rock is a hole (2022) is a dance performance in which the audience is invited to slow down and look beyond the visible. Close to the audience, González Sola holds a series of forms: arches and curves resisting and surrendering to the forces of gravity and time. As the work goes, images, sounds and materials unfold, opening a vast world of associations and emotions.
