public movement: connor schumacher

On Sunday December 2nd choreographer Connor Schumacher invites the visitors of Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen to join a public movement session within the exhibtion The Shape We’re In.

Would the world look more beautiful if we danced every day? With this question in mind choreographer Connor Schumacher started a dynamic and ongoing movement research on different locations outside of the theatres. During interactive encounters, together with the audience and participants, he investigates if and how dance can change our perspective on ourselves and the world around us. How does a greater awareness of the space, your body and the people around you, influence what you see, feel and hear?

The Shape We’re In – Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen (till 13 January)
The works presented in the exhibition The Shape We’re In are recent sculptures from the collection in which the human figure serves as a springboard for questioning the world we live in. For these artists, the body as flesh and blood is less important than the body as a mirror of our time, social codes and conventions. How is identity defined? What roles do religion, social class and gender play in society? And what values do we project onto our bodies and those of others? The human figure forms a common ground or perhaps a battlefield for questions about the human condition.

Participation, free.
