The three elements of the balance sheet equation in accounting. They account for the technical value of private individuals, groups, corporations, and societies.
“The law was made for one thing alone,
for the exploitation of those who don’t understand it,
or are prevented by naked misery from obeying it.”
– Bertolt Brecht
In Asset, Liability, Equity (2016), Connor Schumacher transforms three elements of the balance sheet equation – into a violent powerstruggle. With his work he mixes the personal with the political and the theatrical with transparency. In his idiosyncratic, performative style, he does not shy away from jazz and musical influences, something that results in absurd, humorous and abrasive scenes.
A co-production of Conny Janssen Danst and Dansateliers, developed for Danslokaal 4 in 2016.
