Let’s meet: Alexandra Verschuuren

Alexandra Verschuuren is a dancer and choreographer. Together with Danielle Huyghe she forms the collective Strange Strangers, with which she participates in One Night’s Dance 2019 with the piece ‘Out of the Blue’.

What are you most looking forward to in One Night’s Dance?
I feel excited about the fact that I will be working in a new environment with new people. I am curious for the feedback and exchange of opinions. This is especially exciting since it is my first professional experience as a choreographer.’

What do you hope to gain in the process?
‘Currently, I have become more aware about my responsibility in the art world and the world itself. I hope to develop a better understanding on how I can incorporate my artistic knowledge into becoming a responsible artist.’

What are your dreams for the future?
‘To establish myself as a professional choreographer and researcher, yet remaining a balance between my career and private life. Within my interest of becoming a choreographer and researcher I want to continue performing and delving into my curiosity for movement.’

What is typically you?
‘My natural tendency is to observe people and situations. Through this I become aware about myself in relation to others and my surroundings. I have a curiosity towards things, specifically the unnoticed details in life. I care about details as much as I care about people, this combination has been interesting while creating. Last but not least do I incorporate playfulness in everything I do. This stems from my fascination of children.’

You can witness the work of Alexandra and Danielle during one the eight One Night’s Dance performances from 28 November until 8 December 2019 at Dansateliers. See you there?
