Pedro Goucha Gomes is an independent dancer, teacher and choreographer. He began his dance education at the School of the National Ballet of Portugal when he was just 9 years old and completed his dance studies at the National Ballet School in Toronto, Canada. After that, Pedro danced with different companies and various choreographers. In 2006 he stopped dancing in order to fully concentrate on choreography and has choreographed extensively ever since. As a guest teacher , Pedro teaches regularly in companies and dance studios in Europe, North America and Japan. He also teaches contemporary and somatic movement workshops internationally. Parallel to his creative and pedagogic work, Pedro is a Somatic Movement Practitioner and Feldenkrais researcher.
His ballet classes may be characterized by their flow, musicality and dynamics. As a result of his studies in the field of Somatics (Feldenkrais Method, Somatic Movement and Body-Mind Centering), Pedro approaches ballet classes as a vehicle through which, to enhance and refine the dancer’s awareness while moving as well as the body-mind connection with the environment.
