Johannes Bönig

Johannes Bönig

This contemporary class combines a Limon upper body with ballet‐based legwork. After a starting exercise which warms up the spine as well as the back and establishes a well centred, relaxed balance it moves on to an elaborate barre. This encompasses the whole range of a classical barre while the energy and the movement quality is clearly modern with Typical Limonish curves, bounces, arches etc. The following centre exercises are mainly determined by large special movements and an acceleration of the phrases and combinations, once they are known by the dancers. Adagio as well as concluding jumps also may be part of the class. Johannes Bönig at first adapted the Limon technique as a means for his choreographies. Even though his early work was influenced by choreographers and teachers like Jennifer Muller and Louis Falco his own style expanded the Limon‐based Possibilities which also reflects in his class.
